'My son's long-time request gave birth to the story of Vimanam'

Samuthirakani's next, titled Vimanam, is a Tamil-Telugu bilingual, which is directed by Siva Prasad Yanala. Vimanam, which also stars Anasuya Bharadwaj and Rahul Ramakrishna, marks the comeback of actor Meera Jasmine.

Speaking about the story of Vimanam, director Siva Prasad says, "A young boy wishes to travel on a flight and asks his father to fulfill his wish. Whether or not this wish is fulfilled forms the rest of the story."

Interestingly, Siva Prasad reveals that the story of Vimanam is inspired by his personal life. "We used to live near the Begumpet airport (Hyderabad). My son grew up seeing the takeoff and landing of flights. Every day, he used to request me to take him on a flight at least once in his lifetime. It is this request that pushed me to make this story into a film," says the filmmaker, adding, "Of course, there are fictional elements, especially the central conflict, which are incorporated into the film."

Vimanam marks National Award-winning actor Meera Jasmine's comeback to Telugu after almost a decade. Talking about her role, Siva Prasad shares, "While I can't really reveal the details about her role, which is a very important one, I can say that she isn't playing Samuthirakani's partner in the film."

With music by Charan Arjun, Vimanam has cinematography by Vivek Kalepu and editing by Marthand K Venkatesh.

Vimanam is all set to take flight from June 9.
