It is already known that Vijay's next will be helmed by his Master director Lokesh Kanagaraj. The director is currently working on its pre-production. Recently, the director took part in an event organised for his assistants in Chennai. At the gathering, he reportedly revealed that Thalapathy 67 update will be made within the next couple of months by the makers.

Thalapathy 67 is eagerly awaited, particularly after the blockbuster success of Lokesh's last film Vikram. Speculations have been rife that many big names from other languages will be part of the film. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the makers have signed Sanjay Dutt to play the antagonist's role. Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran is also said to be in talks but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Lokesh has hinted that Thalapathy 67 will be high on action, though it is not known if it will be part of the same universe as Kaithi and Vikram. Currently, the director is finalising the script and casting. Shoot is expected to begin by the end of this year. Vijay, meanwhile, is busy shooting for Vamshi Paidipally's Varisu. The film is slated for Pongal 2023 release.
