We had earlier reported that the much-awaited Seenu Ramasamy-Vijay Sethupathi film, Maamanithan, is set to finally release on May 20.

After the release date was officially announced by the makers, director Seenu Ramasamy took to social media to share the appreciation that came his way from actor Rajinikanth.

Seenu wrote, "In January, you (Rajinikanth) had watched Maamanidhan and called to congratulate me and share your sentiments about the film. I didn't want to disclose this news then because some would have called it a publicity stunt to sell my film. Now, since the release date has been locked, I can share this news and how you watching the film itself was a blessing for us."

Producer RK Suresh, who is backing the film under his Studio 9 banner, thanked Rajinikanth for the appreciation, and said, "Crores of thanks to 'Maa Manithan' (great human) Rajinikanth for appreciating our film Maa Manithan."

The film, which stars Gayathrie, KPAC Lalitha, Guru Somasundaram, and Ganja Karuppu in pivotal roles, has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja and Ilaiyaraaja.
