Director Vetri Maaran, who has teamed up with Dhanush in films like Polladhavan, Aadukalam, Vada Chennai and Asuran, will once again work with the actor. During the audio launch of Dhanush's upcoming film Thiruchitrambalam, which was attended by many celebrities, Vetri Maaran was questioned if Vada Chennai 2 is in the works. The director said that after his upcoming films he will once again team up with Dhanush for a film though he didn't confirm if it will be the sequel to their hit 2018 film, Vada Chennai.

Vada Chennai, which marked the duo's third collaboration, also starred Ameer, Andrea Jeremiah, Aishwarya Rajesh, Samuthirakani and Daniel Balaji. Interestingly, the makers were planning on turning the sequel into a web series and Vetri also wanted to make a prequel for the film titled Rajan Vagaiyara which will be based on the life of Ameer's character.

Meanwhile, Dhanush has films like Naane Varuven, Vaathi and Captain Miller in different stages of production. On the other hand, Vetri's upcoming projects include Viduthalai and Vaadivaasal.
