Actor-politician Udhayanidhi Stalin was sworn in as state minister on Wednesday. Following the announcement, he has revealed that his upcoming film with Mari Selvaraj, Maamannan, will be his last project in his cinema career.

The politician has been given the Minister of Youth Welfare and Sports Development portfolio.

In an interaction after the swearing-in, Udhayanidhi said, "I was supposed to act in a movie produced by Kamal sir. When he came to know about my appointment as a minister, he was the first one to congratulate me. I told him I had no choice but to opt out of the film. So, for all intents and purposes, my last film would be Maamannan with director Mari Selvaraj."

With Udhayanidhi confirming that Maamannan would be his last film, we must wait for an official update from Raaj Kamal Films International about the status of the project, which was launched as the actor's next film. It is also unclear if Udhayanidhi will continue distributing films under his Red Giant Movies banner.

Kamal Haasan took to Twitter to congratulate Udhayanidhi and wrote, "Congratulations brother. You have become a minister. I hope you will not think of it as a position but accept it as a responsibility and the experience of three generations will help you. There are expectations. Your success lies in fulfillment."

Meanwhile, Udhayanidhi's last film Maamannan stars Keerthy Suresh, Fahadh Faasil, and Vadivelu among others. He also has Mu Muran's Kannai Nambathey, which is awaiting a release.
