Karthik Subbaraj's Jigarthanda Double X goes on floors

On Sunday, the makers of Jigarthanda Double X, the sequel to the critically acclaimed gangster drama Jigarthanda, released an intriguing teaser and introduced its lead cast. 

A day after that, the film's director Karthik Subbaraj announced that the film's shooting commenced. In a tweet, he wrote, "On this Auspicious day with all your blessings.... We have started the Shoot of Jigarthanda Double X." (sic)

The film features SJ Suryah and Raghava Lawrence as the two lead characters. In the teaser, SJ Suryah is seen in a retro look wearing a suit and playing the harmonica, while Raghava Lawrence is a rugged smuggler. The teaser hints that the film will be a combination of action and cinema, just like the first part, which starred Bobby Simha and Siddharth.

The upcoming film has music by Santhosh Narayanan, cinematographer S S Thirunavukarasu, who collaborated with Karthik Subbaraj in Mercury and Petta, and Shafique Mohamed Ali is the editor. 

Jigarthanda Double X is backed by Kaarthekeyen Santhanam and Kathiresan under the Stone Bench Films & Five Star Creations banners. Meanwhile, SJ Suryah, last seen in the Prime Video series Vadhandhi, has Bommai, Mark Antony and RC 15 coming up. On the other hand, Raghava Lawrence has Rudhran, Adhigaram and Chandramukhi 2.
