Ponniyin Selvan:1 to release in Imax format

Directed by Mani Ratnam, the upcoming epic period film features Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi and Trisha

Ponniyin Selvan: 1 becomes the first Tamil film to release in Imax format on September 30, the makers announced on Tuesday.

Imax cameras have high resolution and the theatres are known for having large screens with a tall aspect ratio and steep seating arena.

Directed by Mani Ratnam, the upcoming epic period film features Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha,  Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Rahman and R Parthiban.

The film, based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1995 novel, is adapted by Mani Ratnam, along with Elango Kumaravel and B Jeyamohan. It is produced under the Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions banner.

Ponniyin Selvan was shot by Ravi Varman, while AR Rahman composed the music. The technical crew also includes editor A Sreekar Prasad and production designer Thota Tharani.

Earlier, the makers had planned the project as a stand-alone film, but later it was announced that the film will release in two parts.
