Karthi, who is busy promoting his upcoming release Viruman, has revealed in a recent media interaction that the shoot for the much-anticipated Kaithi 2 will begin in 2023. He added that director Lokesh Kanagaraj will start working on the same after the completion of Thalapathy 67 with Vijay.

Dream Warrior Pictures first announced the sequel to Kaithi in 2019 immediately after the success of the first part. However, the project got delayed due to Karthi and Lokesh's prior commitments.

More recently, Karthi's character Dilli from Kaithi made an appearance in Vikram, with which Lokesh established a new cinematic universe. It is not yet known if the director is planning to further expand the universe by bringing in Kamal's character Vikram and Suriya's Rolex to Kaithi 2.

Karthi, whose Viruman is set to arrive this Friday (August 12), also has Ponniyin Selvan - 1 and Sardar lined up. While the Mani Ratnam film is scheduled to hit screens on September 30, Sardar, directed by PS Mithran, has been confirmed as a Deepavali release in October.
