Maamanithan bags gold medal in Tokyo Film Awards

The Vijay Sethupathi-starrer Maamanithan has won a gold medal at the at the Tokyo Film Awards, held recently.

Taking to Twitter, director Seenu Ramasamy, who helmed the film, said, “Category (Best Asian Film) Golden Winner Happy to share our #Maamanithan feature film Won Tokyo Film Awards 2022 Thanks to producer @thisisysr.”

While Takahiro Kawabe's Love Song at 5 p.m, won the silver and Mart Bira's Nomadic Doctor bagged the bronze.

Maamanithan follows the life of a simple man who tries to provide good education to his children by getting them admitted to a private school. However, he gets meddled up after he enters a deal with a real estate developer and gets cheated.

Maamanithan also features Gayathrie, KPAC Lalitha, Guru Somasundaram and Shaji Chen, among others. The film released in theatres on June 24 and is currently streaming on Aha Tamil.  The film's cinematography and editing were handled by M Sukumar and A Sreekar Prasad, respectively. It also saw the legendary Ilaiyaraaja and his son Yuvan Shankar Raja coming together for the first time to compose music.
