The producer of Venkat Prabhu-Silamabarasan TR, Suresh Kamatchi has penned a letter to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Stalin. In the letter, the producer has voiced against the need for theatre patrons to carry a Covid-19 vaccination certificate.

The letter read, "After the advent of OTT, patronage towards theatres has reduced and it's only the release of big films like Annaatthe that bring the audience back to the big screens. Bringing back 100 per cent occupancy has been a big boon for the industry but the recent mandate of allowing only vaccinated patrons into the theatres has shocked the film industry."

Citing that vaccination hasn't been made compulsory across the globe,  Suresh also said, "A vaccine for those below the age of 18 is yet to be invented and yet they allowed to go to their school and other public places. Under your administration, the rate of vaccination in the state has been splendid and the everyday cases are very much under the control rate. At this juncture, expecting the theatre-going audience to have vaccination certificates would affect the film industry."

Stating the difficulties in carrying the certificate to the theatres, the producer pointed out that, "A lot of people still don't carry their phones to the theatres. In that case, such a mandate would stop them from visiting the theatres and if those who make it to the theatres are sent back, for this reason, it would discourage them from coming back again. Hence, just like how those under-18 are allowed to see films on the big screens, I request for the allowance of those who are going to be vaccinated soon. A favourable change made as soon as possible will save the theatres and those who rely on it."

It's unclear if the mandate will be revoked and currently, adults are required to carry a copy of their vaccination certificate to be allowed inside the theatres.
