Silambarasan TR: Frequent requests for updates by fans can lead to filmmakers making wrong decisions

At a time when films are running for fewer days in the theatres, and are being released on OTT within a month of its release, it is heartening to see Tamil cinema celebrate 50-day runs and 100-day runs at the big screens.

The latest film to join this list is Gautham Menon's Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu, which starred Silambarasan TR in the lead. A special event was conducted to mark the 50th day of the film, and important members of the cast and crew, including actor Siddhi Idnani were in attendance.

Speaking at the event, Silambarasan expressed his gratitude towards the makers, and the audience for delivering a super success. "Firstly, I have to thank Udhay (Udhayanidhi Stalin) anna for ensuring a massive release for VTK. Right from Gautham sir to the team of Vels, I have to thank the entire team," said Silambarasan, who reiterated his foresight about the success of the Mallipoo number.

Silambarasan also mentioned how over the course of this film, producer Isari Ganesan and his Vels International has become home to him, just like his father's Chimbu Cine Arts. The actor-filmmaker also had warm things to say about the present phase of Tamil cinema. "This is the golden period of Tamil cinema. Look at the responses to Vikram, Ponniyin Selvan, Kantara, and Love Today. Many directors have a dream project that is put in the backburner for a variety of reasons. I think this is the right time to make a lot of those dreams come true. Tamil cinema must use this phase, and make the best of it."

The backbone of Silambarasan's eclectic career has always been the staunch support from his fans, and the actor attributed the success of Vendhu Thanindhadhu Kaadu to his mature audiences. "Before release, I was a bit afraid about the results. This wasn't a typical mass film. There was no hero glorification. I wanted to be Muthu, and not Simbu, but the Silambarasan definitely had a fear. However, the audience showed their maturity, and we are thankful for their support," said Silambarasan, who went on to address an important elephant in any room.

Addressing his fans, Silambarasan said, "I understand your enthusiasm, but I think it isn't right for you all to ask the makers of the film for updates. The entire cast and crew of a film are working together to ensure that we are able to give it our all, and, in turn, for you. The thing is when you bombard the makers with constant requests for updates, there is chance that decisions go wrong.  Give us the space to do good films. Many heroes might want their fans to put him on a pedestal, but I am a hero who wants to keep my audience on a pedestal. So, not just for my films, I'd like all of you to stop asking the same for other actors too," signed off Silambarasan.

Apart from OBeli N Krishna's Pathu Thala, the official remake of Kannada blockbuster, Mufti, Silambarasan also has Corona Kumar with Gokul, and there are rumours about a potential collaboration with Sudha Kongara, but nothing has been announced officially.
