Ranvir Shorey, Anurag Kashyap engage in a war of words about "hypocrisy" and mainstream Bollywood

The debates on nepotism and outsiders vs non-outsiders are not showing any signs of abating. Joining this seemingly never-ending discussion was Ranvir Shorey who took to social media and said, "So many independent-film-crusaders have turned mainstream-Bollywood-flunkies now. These are the same people who used to rant 24/7 about the "system" for attention before they were fiven entry into the pearly gates of mainstream Bollywood. #Hypocrisy much?

Although Shorey didn't explicitly mention any names, director Anurag Kashyap, who saw this tweet as part of the ill-famed subtweet culture, responded by asking if Ranvir really meant what he said. "Please say exactly what you mean and whose flunky is who?”

This to-and-fro continued as Ranvir didn't mince any words and said, “I always say what I mean, @anuragkashyap72, you know that. And I don’t think what I’ve said lacks any clarity. It pretty much explains everything. As for taking names, that’s beneath me. I’m not trying to sling mud, but just reminding people where they come from.”

From standing by his stance of operating alone to saying he has worked with a lot of outsiders, Anurag was steadfast about not allowing Ranvir or anyone else to "change or create a new perception" about him. However, Ranvir was quick to respond that he never named anyone and it was unfair of Anurag to think he was the voice of independent cinema.

The argument ended with the safe "Agree to disagree" stalemate but this exchange of cryptic tweets from two important names who strive to maintain a balance between mainstream and independent cinema has left social media divided.
