Amazon scraps The Banker’s Wife due to Covid-restrictions

The Banker's Wife, a new web series that was due for production at Amazon Studios, has been scrapped by the streaming giant, according to sources. An adaptation of Cristina Algerwhich's bestselling novel by the same name, the studio ordered an eight-episode series in the summer of 2019.

Reportedly, the studio is no longer proceeding with the show, on the back of the production delays and budget constraints caused by the pandemic.

Billed as a globe-trotting thriller, the series was expected to follow two women racing for answers when a mysterious plane crash sets them off on parallel pursuits of truth. The story mandates production across multiple countries, from Switzerland to France and England, making it a logistical challenge for the producers.

According to reports, the pandemic situation in Europe is the primary reason behind the cancellation of the series, which was in the final stages of pre-production last March, just before the global outbreak of the coronavirus.

Meredith Stiehm had written all eight episodes of The Banker's Wife, with Lesli Linka Glatter set to direct all of them.
