Actor-director RJ Balaji recently confirmed that he will be co-directing and playing the lead in the Tamil remake of the hit 2018 Bollywood film Badhaai Ho. It's now rumoured that Priya Anand will be playing the female lead in this remake. Interestingly, Priya was also a part of Balaji's debut film as a lead actor, LKG.

The yet-to-be-titled film will be bankrolled by Valimai producer Boney Kapoor, who holds the remake rights of the Hindi film. NJ Saravanan, who co-directed Mookuthi Amman with Balaji, will also be co-directing this remake.

A source close to the film has confirmed that the makers are rewriting the script to suit the local audience. While there were previous reports that actors like Sathyaraj had been roped in for pivotal roles, the source also reveals that the rest of the cast and crew are yet to be finalised.

Directed by Amit Ravindrenath Sharma, Badhaai Ho was about an older couple getting pregnant and their young son coming to terms with it. The film, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao, went on to grab two National awards.
