From Arun Karthick's award-winning film Nasir to Kiran R's Parallel Lines, many indie films are part of this year's New York Indian Film Festival's lineup.

In a rare incident, three films produced by one Chennai-based studio named Stray Factory are selected for the festival. The films are Arun Karthick's Nasir, Drishya's B. Selvi & Daughters, and Akash Prabhakar's Freddie's Piano.

Mathivanan Rajendran, the founder of Stray Factory, said, “NYIFF was the first film festival I ever visited, back in 2016. I remember being inspired by the independent voices platformed by this kind of festival. Now, to have three films at the same festival… It feels like I’ve come full circle.”

Arun Karthick, the director of Nasir (which won the FIPRESCI India Grand Prix award), said, “The continuing accolades from audiences, festivals and critics only validate the gentle power of Dilip Kumar’s short story (based on which Nasir was made) and the collaborative spirit of our amazing crew and cast who stood shoulder to shoulder in bringing Nasir to life."

Other indie films like Jack Prabhu -Santoshh KK's First Nights, Kiran R's Parallel Lines, Haresh Narayanan's short Theetu, and Radhika Prasidhha's Appa's Seasons are also part of the ongoing film festival.

The popular film festival kick-started on Friday and will go on till June 13. The films are available to watch on-demand on Movie Saints for the entire duration of the festival.
