Samantha Akkineni's Shaakuntalam is back on track. A new schedule of the much-awaited mythological drama has begun in a specially erected Kingdom set on Tuesday night in the city.

Samantha, who is relishing the success of The Family Man 2, has joined the sets with Dev Mohan and other cast members of the film. The Rangasthalam actor has shared a slew of pictures that provide a glimpse of the set on social media. "Work progress," wrote Samantha.

Directed by Gunasekhar, Shaakuntalam is based on Kalidasa's epic Sanskrit play Abhijnana Shakuntalam. The film also showcases Mohan Babu as Durvasa Maharishi and Tamil actor Aditi Balan in a supporting role.

Speculations were rife that the makers are contemplating to bring one among Allu Arjun's son Ayaan or Jr NTR's elder son Abhay Ram on board for Shaakuntala's son Bharata's role.

Earlier in May, the shooting of the film had come to a halt following the resurgence of Covid-19.

A Mani Sharma musical, Shaakuntalam is being made on a pan-India scale, under Gunaa Teamworks in association with Dil Raju's Sri Venkateswara Creations.
