Pa Ranjith's Sarpatta Parambarai trailer out; Arya throws punches in this period sports drama

The much-awaited trailer of Pa Ranjith's Sarpatta Parambarai, starring Arya, has been released earlier today by actor Suriya. "Hats off to Pa Ranjith and Arya, and the entire cast and crew for creating this epic film. The hard work put in by the team is evident on screen!" tweeted Suriya while sharing the trailer. 

The trailer promises a fierce sports drama set in the 80s in the backdrop of North Chennai, which, interestingly, was also the setting of Madras, the film that brought Ranjith to the spotlight. The film chronicles the rivalry between two factions with the boxing ring serving as their battlefield, and a dialogue from Pasupathi's character draws a clear line between the sport and violence.

Sarapatta Parambarai marks Ranjith's return to direction after the Rajinikanth-starrer, Kaala, which was released in 2018. The film features a large ensemble cast including Kalaiyarasan, Pasupathi, Dushara, John Kokken, Santhosh Pratap, Shabeer Kallarakkal, Johnn Vijay, Kali Venkat, and Muthukumar.

The film, which has music and cinematography by Santhosh Narayanan and Murali G, respectively, is being produced by Pa Ranjith through his banner, Neelam Productions 

The film is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on July 22.
