Chandler Kinney, Maia Reficco to headline HBO's Pretty Little Liars reboot series
Titled Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, the reboot series is scheduled to begin production later this summer in New York.
Actors Chandler Kinney and Maia Reficco are all set to play the leads in Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, a darker, modern-day reboot of the popular series.
The reboot series hails from Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Lindsay Calhoon Bring (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Alloy Entertainment, and Warner Bros TV. Lisa Soper, who is also a Chilling Adventures of Sabrina-alum will direct the first two episodes of the series.
Written by Aguirre-Sacasa and Calhoon Bring, the reboot series is based on the bestselling books by Sara Shepard. It will feature a new story with new characters.
Twenty years ago, a series of tragic events almost ripped apart the blue-collar town of Millwood. In the present day, a group of disparate teen girls find themselves tormented by an unknown assailant and are made to pay for the secret sin their parents committed two decades ago, as well as their own. The reboot series is set miles away from Rosewood, but within the existing Pretty Little Liars universe that fans are fond of.
Kinney will play Tabby, an aspiring director and horror movie buff, who like other Little Liars, is also hiding a secret. Reficco will portray Noa, a striving, sardonic track star who works hard to get her life back to normal after a summer spent in juvenile detention.
