Tamil Nadu government revokes 100 per cent theatre occupancy

In a sudden turn of events, the Tamil Nadu state government has revoked its earlier permission to allow 100 per cent theatre occupancy ahead of Pongal releases.

The state government will now only allow 50 per cent occupancy in theatres with all necessary Covid protocols in place.

The decision has come in the wake of dissent from various quarters, including the Home Ministry, which asked the Tamil Nadu government to not allow 100 per cent occupancy in accordance with its pandemic guidelines.

In addition to that, Madras High Court today also told the government to maintain the status quo of allowing only 50 per cent occupancy in theatres. The bench also said it would issue an order if the government did not revoke its decision.

The TN government's decision comes as a disappointment to the fans of Vijay and Simbu, who were set to celebrate the releases of Master and Eeswaran with full theatre occupancy.
