Mari Selvaraj's Karnan opened last week to unanimous positive reception and actor-politician Udhayanidhi Stalin is the newest addition to the list of celebrities who have lauded the film. The DMK youth wing secretary, who has stated that Karnan must be celebrated for its accurate representation of the pain faced by the oppressed people, also added that he noticed a historical inaccuracy in the film.

It is no secret that Karnan is inspired by the Kodiyankulam riots. Udhayanidhi shared that the event took place during the rule of ADMK, under the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in 1995, but in the film, it has been wrongly mentioned as 1997 when DMK was the ruling party.  He added that he pointed out the mistake to director Mari Selvaraj and producer Thanu, and they have agreed to rectify the error within two days.

Starring Dhanush in the titular role, Karnan also features Rajisha Vijayan, Lal, Natty and Gouri Kishan. The film has music by Santhosh Narayanan.
