China approves Wong Kar-Wai’s Chunking Express sequel

China’s National Film Bureau approved Wong Kar-Wai’s new film listed as ‘Chungking Express 2020’. Created and produced by auteur Wong Kar-Wai, the upcoming project will be a sequel of his sensational hit Chungking Express.
The 1994 film went on to earn cult status and continues to be celebrated by cinephiles around the world. Following four different characters and a unique storyline, the classic film is a tale of longing, love and loneliness.
The new movie will follow two love stories set in different timelines. While one strand of the story will unfold in the 90s, the reminder of the story will happen in 2036 and is expected to have exciting sci-fi elements.
This year also marks the 20th anniversary of the auteur’s most revered work, In the Mood for Love, which was recently restored for the New York Film Festival.
