The health of SP Balasubrahmanyam, who was admitted to a Chennai hospital for coronavirus treatment, has unfortunately deteriorated and the singer's condition is now 'extremely critial'.

A statement from the MGM hospital, where he has been admitted for over a month, says, "Thiru SP Balasubrahmanyam, who had been admitted at MGM Healthcare on August 5th, remains on ECMO and other life support measures. His condition in the last 24 hours has deteriorated further warranting maximal life support and he is extremely critical. The team of experts at MGM Healthcare are closely monitoring his health conditions."

SPB, who was admitted to the hospital on August 5 after testing positive for COVID-19, was later put on life support on August 14 when his condition worsened after a bout of pneumonia. However, he later showed major improvements in addition to testing negative for the coronavirus.

However, the recent development has put scores of the singer's fans and well-wishers in deep worry, and social media is abuzz with prayers for the swift recovery of the legendary singer.

Actor Kamal Haasan, frequent collaborator and friend of the singer, rushed to MGM Hospital. After visiting his friend, Kamal spoke to the media briefly. He said, "SPB is currently on life support. The family is praying for his recovery. He is not keeping well. His condition is critical."
