Actor Payal Gosh accuses Anurag Kashyap of sexual harassment

A twitter dispute broke out when Bollywood actor Payal Gosh accused Anurag Kashyap of sexual harassment in a tweet on Saturday evening. While actors like Kangana Ranaut displayed support for Payal and tweeted urging the authorities to take legal action against Anurag, various renowned personalities in the industry stood with the director and tweeted praising his courage and hailing how reliable and radical Anurag Kashyap has been in his profession.

Payal Gosh made her accusations in an interview for ABN Telugu and retweeting the channel’s post of her video on Twitter, she tagged the accounts of the Office of Prime Minister of India and Narendra Modi and requested them to take action and reveal the dark side of the filmmaker. She stated that her security was at risk and called out for help.

Kangana Ranaut retweeted Gosh’s tweet stating "Every voice matters" and included the hashtags #MeToo and #ArrestAnuragKashyap.

On Sunday, actor Tapsee Pannu, who has worked with Anurag Kashyap in his 2018 film Manmarziyaan, supported the director through an Instagram post where she claimed that Anurag was one of the biggest feminists she has known who strives to create powerful and significant women in his films.

Rekha Sharma, the Chairperson of National Commission for Women guided Payal Gosh through a tweet to send her a detailed official complaint and assured her that NCW will look into the case.

In a thread of tweets in Hindi, the director denied the charges levelled against him and dismissed them as ‘baseless’.

Kashyap wrote, “In accusing me you have tried to rope in my artistes and the Bachchan family but have failed. Madam, I have been married twice, if that is my crime, I accept it, and I have loved a lot, I accept that too. Whether it was my first wife or the second, or any other lover, or the many actresses I have worked with, or that team of girls and women who has always been working with me, or the many women who I met in private or in public.”

He further added, “I do not engage in such behaviour or tolerate it. We shall see whatever happens. One can see in your video how much of it is truth and how much of it isn't. Blessings and love to you. Apologies for answering your English with my Hindi. There will be many more attacks. This is just the start. I have received many calls asking me to shut up and not say a word. I am aware that I have no clue yet where all the attacks are going to come from. I am waiting.”
