Gunasekhar's next titled Shakuntalam

Even before his ambitious Hiranyakashyap goes on floors, director Gunasekhar is gearing up to direct Shakuntalam, a woman-centric film. A source in the know has informed Cinema Express that like his earlier film Rudhramadevi, the upcoming film is a historical costume drama that is rumoured to be inspired by the epic Mahabharatam. 

"The film tells the story of Shakuntala, daughter of the sage Vishwamitra and the apsara Menaka. The plot is based upon a love affair, secret marriage, separation of imprecation and reunion of immortal love of Dushyanta and Shakuntala," says the source, adding, "Gunasekhar approached Pooja Hegde for the female lead role, but things did not work out as the actor is apprehensive of playing a mother on screen at this point in her career. So, he is on the lookout for another established actor, who can do justice to the character."

Produced by Neelima Guna under Gunaa Teamworks banner, Shaakuntalam has music by Mani Sharma. The film is expected to go on floors soon.
