42 years of Don: Amitabh Bachchan remembers winning Filmfare award

Amitabh Bachchan’s 1978 hit Don completed 42 years today. Taking to Twitter, the actor shared a few memories related to the film, including pictures of him and Jaya Bachchan at the Filmfare award ceremony. The actor also remembered cinematographer-producer Nariman A. Irani, who had passed away before the release of the film.

“3528 - 42 years of DON .. goodness !  some memories ..winning Best Actor Filmfare with Nutan ji ..producer Nariman Irani, Chandra Barot, director .. Jaya & me at Filmfare award ceremony .. we lost Nariman Irani before the film could release .. I dedicated award to his wife,” Big B wrote.

Written by Salim-Javed and directed by Chandra Barot, Don was an action crime-thriller starring Amitabh Bachchan in a double role. The story centred on Vijay, the lookalike of an underworld don who is sent in to infiltrate his gang. The film’s music was composed by Kalyanji Anandji with lyrics by Anjaan and Indeevar.

A blockbuster upon release, Don was later adapted as a reboot franchise starring Shah Rukh Khan. Rajinikanth’s 1980 film Billa was also a remake of Don
