After the return of classic shows like Ramayan, Mahabharat, and Circus on Doordarshan, Mukesh Khanna’s popular superhero series Shaktimaan appears poised next for a rerun.

The actor, who essayed the velvet-clad superhero from 1997-2005, shared on Twitter: “130 crore Indians will together get the opportunity to watch Shaktiman on DD once again. Wait for the announcement.”

Last week, the public broadcasting body Prasar Bharati greenlit four shows to be re-telecast on DD National and its sister channels. These included the epics, Ramayan and Maharabharat, as well as the cult shows, Circus (starring Shah Rukh Khan) and Byomkesh Bakshi.

Incidentally, Mukesh Khanna played the duty-bound Bhishma in BR Chopra’s Mahabharat

Shaktimaan ran on DD for 502 episodes between 1997-2005. Mukesh, who also produced the show, essayed the dual roles of Shaktimaan and his geeky double Gangadhar, a photojournalist for Aaj Ki Aawaz newspaper. In 2011, an animated series based on Shaktimaan was aired, followed by the television film Hamara Hero Shaktimaan in 2013.
