R Balki on nepotism:  Find me a better actor than Alia Bhatt or Ranbir Kapoor and we’ll argue

Filmmaker R Balki feels the topic of nepotism is discussed for entertainment and ‘unfairly’ associated with certain actors. In an interview with a publication, Balki said that while star kids do have an advantage in the industry, the talent of actors like Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor is unmatched.

“The questiona is do they (star kids) have an unfair or bigger advantage? Yes, there are pros and cons. But I’d ask one simple question: Find me a better actor than Alia or Ranbir, and we’ll argue. It’s unfair on these few people who’re probably some of the finest actors,” he is quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

The sucide of actor Sushant Singh Rajput on June 14 has stirred a debate on nepotism and privilege in Bollywood. Balki agreed that audiences like to see star kids onscreen. However, that only gives them their first shot, after which they must sustain themselves based on their talent. “I agree it’s far more difficult for an outsider to make an entry in films, but talent gets the opportunity,” he told the publication.

Balki’s statement created a buzz on social media. Reacting to the director, actor Avinash Tiwary wrote, “Dear R Balki sir, you would not know of the better actors if they are not given an opportunity and you don't step out to watch them.”

R Balki has directed films like Cheeni Kum, Paa, and Padman. Avinash Tiwary was recent seen in Bulbbul
