Director Ashish R Shukla: Undekhi is a tight thriller with many twists and turns

Director Ashish R Shukla has helmed the new SonyLIV series Undekhi, which was released today. Ashish was the creative head on Dev D and has directed films like Prague and the upcoming Bahut Hua Sammaan.

Speaking about Undekhi, the filmmaker shares, “It's about an isolated resort, two cold-blooded murders, a high-profile wedding, an influential family, a life-threatening piece of evidence, a group of people on edge of conscience, a ruthless manhunt, and a wild tribal girl amid the chaos of modern-day Manali.”

He says the stories are backdropped on true events, "A cold-blooded, brutal event happened a few years back in Bathinda, Punjab where a pregnant dancer was killed during an event by gun-wielding drunk men. The show has been woven around that mishap with the help of fictional characters and events. But the fictionalised plot twists and turns along the landscape of cold and gloomy Manali, with a colder backstory in Bengal that makes it a dark web of innocent lives on stake."

The script of Undekhi was penned by Siddharth Sengupta and Varun Badola, who had written Apharan.

"It's a tight thriller with many overwhelming twists and turns,” Ashish shares. “It became a responsibility to do justice with the script and face the challenges that will be seen in the show. It's the sheer balance of coldness with dark humour in Varun's dialogues that makes it unique and entertaining. I'm hoping it will be a winner for the audience."
