Veteran actor Shabana Azmi was injured in a car accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Saturday afternoon. Her car, which was headed from Pune to Mumbai, was hit by a truck in the rear. The 69-year-old actor sustained minor facial injuries and is presently admitted at MGM Hospital in Kamothe.

As per reports, her husband, veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar, was traveling in a separate car and was not involved in the accident. However, Shabana’s driver and another unidentified woman were hurt in the crash.

Several Bollywood celebrities took to Twitter to wish Shabana a speedy recovery. “Shabana Azmi injured in a road accident on Mumbai- Pune Expressway. Oh my god! Praying so hard,” Swara Bhasker tweeted.

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta wrote, “The Mumbai-Pune expressway has always been dangerous and there is little or no monitoring to prevent rash driving. Have seen so many terrible accidents there. Hope Shabana Azmi is fine. Dear Uddhav Thackeray please improve safety on this route urgently. It is quite a death trap.”

Ranvir Shorey tweeted, “This is terrible! Praying for Shabana Azmi’s safety and wishing her a speedy recovery!”
