It is now confirmed that Disney's Mulan will be getting a theatrical release in mainland China. Earlier, the production house announced that the film will be premiering on Disney+ on September 4 and subscribers have to pay an additional sum of $29.99 to view the film. The official statement also mentioned that the film will get a theatrical release in the territories across the world where cinema halls are open but Disney+ is unavailable.
Apart from China, places like Singapore and Malaysia will also get theatrical releases according to Variety. The new development is a huge win for the production house as China is the biggest marker for Mulan. A live-action adaptation of Disney's 1998 animation film, it is based on the Chinese folklore, The Ballad of Mulan.
Recently, a poster of the film was released and received negative comments on social media. Fans called the poster dated and bland. Nevertheless, the film is still one of the much-anticipated films of the year. Directed by Niki Caro, Mulan has Liu Yifei and Donnie Yen in the lead roles.
