Mahesh Babu to play the lead in Rajamouli’s next project

Director SS Rajamouli has confirmed that after his upcoming film, RRR (Roudram Ranam Rudhiram), he will direct a film starring Mahesh Babu in the lead. The untitled film, set to be produced by KL Narayana, is expected to be officially announced next year and hit the floors in 2022.

Over the past few months, speculations were rife that the duo was coming together for a project. Rajamouli confirmed this in a recent interview with a TV channel. He said, “These are not rumors. The fact is that I will direct Mahesh Babu and the film will be produced by KL Narayana. This will be my next after RRR.”

Mahesh Babu was last seen on screens in Sarileru Neekevvaru. The film became a box office hit and collected more than Rs 200 crore during its theatrical run.

Meanwhile, the shooting of Rajamouli's RRR has been suspended due to the coronavirus lockdown. Lead cast members, including Jr NTR and Ram Charan, have been dubbing for the film from their homes. Also starring Ajay Devgn, Samuthirakani, and Alison Doody, RRR is slated for release on January 8, 2021.
