Ek Do Teen was shot with a real crowd of 1,000 people, reveals Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri Dixit recently hosted a listening party on Twitter for her hit song Ek Do Teen. Featured in Tezaab (1988), the song announced Madhuri’s dancing skills to the world and established her as a top performer of the era.

The popular dance number was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal and sung by Alka Yagnik. A male version of the song, picturized on Anil Kapoor and voiced by Amit Kumar, was later added to the film.

Madhuri shared a range of trivia about the staging and choreography of the song. “Right from starting the rehearsals 10-15 days before the shoot, to shooting with a real crowd of 1,000 people, the song has been so special,” she said.

Remembering Ek Do Teen’s viral hookstep, Madhuri wrote, “The hookstep became so popular at that time. I was shocked to know that people used to demand the song to be replayed in the theatres before the movie could continue and fling money on the screens. Everyone had started calling me Mohini. Wow, this song brought back many memories.”

Ek Do Teen was recreated in 2018 for Baaghi 2. It featured Jacqueline Fernandez and was voiced by Shreya Ghosal. Another version, also voiced by Shreya, was used in Amisha Patel’s Desi Magic.
