Ajay Devgn sets franchise on 'Unsung Warriors' of India
The actor-producer plans to create an Avengers-style franchise on the forgotten heroes of India
Ahead of Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, lead actor and co-producer Ajay Devgn is planning to create a franchise on other unsung heroes of India.
Ajay’s team has already shortlisted some stories that he’s keen to narrate. The idea for the franchise struck Ajay while he was researching for the role of Tanaji Malusare, the commander of Chhatrapati Shivaji’s army, in the Om Raut-directed film.
“If Avengers can attract the youth, our heroes and unsung warriors can also find a connect with them. You have to tell a story on a grand scale with emphasis on character values,” a source said.
Confirming the same, Ajay shared, “When researching Tanhaji, I was fascinated by warriors like him who have made significant contributions to our freedom movement. These are stories of valour and I want to bring some of them to the screen.”
While Ajay, Kajol and Saif Ali Khan are headlining Tanhaji, other A-list actors will be approached for central roles in the franchise. The films will be produced under Ajay’s banner, which also has a dedicated VFX division for creating big-screen spectacles.
Tanaji: The Unsung Warrior is set to release on January 10, 2020. Ajay’s upcoming films are Maidaan and Bhuj: The Pride of India. He will also be seen in a special appearance in Sooryavanshi.
