The journey of Mumbai-based hip-hop dance group Kings United India, which recently won the American dance reality show World of Dance, has inspired an upcoming Bollywood film to be shot this year. Shailendra Singh has acquired the rights of making a ‘global’ film on the story of the 22 dancers from Nala Suparada, who spend 12 years to fulfill their dream. The producer is planning to rope in an international director to helm the project slated for a 2020 release.

The third season of World of Dance was hosted by Scott Evans and featured Jennifer Lopez, Ne-Yo, and Derek Hough. The final episode witnessed Kings United India walk away with a 1 million USD cash prize for their cinematic Baahubali-style performance.

Suresh Mukund, the group's founder and head choreographer, shared his excitement for the project: “Our journey has been full of trials and tribulations, victory and glory. But we had a dream, and the only thing we knew to do, was to keep chasing that dream. We believe that Shailendra Singh truly understands our story and can translate it in to film. We are very excited to embark upon this new journey with him.”

Suresh’s life story had earlier inspired the Bollywood film ABCD 2, directed by Remo D’Souza.
