Vivek Oberoi on Monday was criticized for sharing a meme featuring his former girlfriend Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The meme parallels Aishwarya Rai’s past and present relationships with the ongoing exit poll results in India. Vivek, who briefly dated Aishwarya in 2003 was involved in a media feud with her former boyfriend Salman Khan, was slammed for being ‘distasteful and ‘classless’ on social media. Others alleged that the actor was trying to rake up attention for his upcoming film, PM Narendra Modi, which releases on May 24.

Sonam Kapoor, who is presently accompanying Aishwarya at the Cannes Film Festival, called the tweet “Disgusting and claseless”. Veteran actor Soni Razdan wrote, “Distasteful. Move on Mr. Oberoi.” Indian badminton champion Jwalla Gutta also responded to the tweet by saying, “Extremely absurd of you to tweet this!! Disappointing!”

The controversy coincides with the launch of the new poster of PM Narendra Modi, which was unveiled in the presence Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in Nagpur. The film, which was earlier scheduled to release on April 11, was stalled by the Election Commission until after the elections for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct.

Speaking at the poster launch, Vivek said, “As we all know, we have been harassed a lot. But the good thing is that the movie is releasing. The feeling of nationalism is in the film. I hope people take their children to watch it. There are a lot of beautiful things in the film.”

Reportedly, the Maharashtra State Commission for Women is mulling to take action against Vivek for the post
