Director Sanjay Gupta is planning to direct a new gangster film set in the ‘80s and ‘90s. The story revolves around key elements that changed the criminal landscape of Mumbai. The filmmaker's recent works in the gangster space include Shootout at Wadala (2013) and Jazba (2015).

Talking about his next project, Sanjay said, “The story of this city we live in has its roots in several events like the shutting down of the mills and the first ever murder of an industrialist.  These were a key factor in changing Bombay into Mumbai. I’ve always enjoyed documenting the history of this city’s underbelly. It has taken me a while to research the subject and put everything in place."

The director is yet to finalise his cast but the film has been announced to go on floors in July or August this year.

Sanjay Gupta's last film was Kaabil (2017), starring Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam. The action thriller, partly inspired by the samurai film, Blind Fury, was recently released in China.
