Work on Jordan Peele's take on Bernard Rose's 1992 hit film Candyman will begin in August. The original film, which follows a Chicago student completing a thesis on urban legends, which leads her to the legend of Candyman, the ghost of an artist who was murdered in the late 19th century, .is beloved by horror fans to this day and is considered as a contemporary classic. The film, on release, received critical acclaim for numerous reasons, particularly for tackling social issues and its love story.

Two sequels followed, but they weren't regarded in the same manner as the original film, which starred Tony Todd as the titular villain. There has not been much backlash towards the new project, probably, because of Peele's involvement, since he has garnered a reputation in the horror genre due to his two successful film's Get Out and Us.

Peele's take on the classic film will be produced under his own Monkeypaw Production company banner. It is being called a "spiritual sequel" to the original. Tony Todd, who initially had mixed feelings about the project, is also on board. Jordan Peele's Candyman Starting Production In August
