Soundarya Rajinikanth to bankroll a web series on Ponniyin Selvan  

Filmmaker-producer Soundarya Rajinikanth is all set to produce a web series based on Kalki's classic Tamil novel, Ponniyin Selvan. The announcement has surprised the audience as it has been speculated for a while that a feature film version by Mani Ratnam is on the cards.

About the project, Soundarya said in a statement, "Ponniyin Selvan is one of the greatest historical novels written in Tamil. From the day I read this amazing novel, I was determined to narrate this impeccable story in the visual medium and have explored every single avenue that offered the possibility to realise this vision. I am sure that the viewers will stay glued to this period drama."

The series will be directed by Sooriyaprathap S, a historical scholar who has previously worked with directors KS Ravikumar and Soundarya, and it will be streamed internationally on the online streaming platform, MX player. 

The makers are yet to disclose details about the cast and crew of the series.
