Rohit Shetty’s upcoming cop-actioner, Sooryavanshi, went on floors on Saturday in Goa. The film stars Akshay Kumar in the role of Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief Veer Sooryavanshi. Expected to release around Christmas in 2019, Sooryavanshi will be Shetty’s latest instalment in his ongoing cop universe, preceded by the Ranveer Singh-starrer Simmba (2018) and the Ajay Devgn-starrer Singham Returns (2014) and Singham (2011). A post-credit teaser of Sooryavanshi, featuring Akshay Kumar in character, was attached to Simmba.

A day ago, the makers of Sooryavanshi had confirmed that film is based on an original script and isn't a remake of the Tamil film Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru.

“This is in reference to the news that director Rohit Shetty has bought the rights of Tamil film Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru, for Sooryavanshi. This is to clarify that the news is completely untrue and baseless. Akshay Kumar-starrer Sooryavanshi, which is produced and directed by Rohit Shetty, is an original story and not inspired from any film.”

Slated to go on floors in 2019, Sooryavanshi is the latest entry in Rohit Shetty’s ongoing cop franchise, preceded by the two Singham movies and Simmba, which featured a post-credit teaser of the upcoming film. Akshay’s character in the film, Veer Sooryavanshi, is the chief of the Anti-Terrorism Squad and a close ally of Bajirao Singham (Ajay Devgn) and Sangram Bhalerao (Ranveer Singh).
