Producer Madhu Mantena and Reliance Entertainment are bankrolling a film on the last Hindu queen of Kashmir, Kota Rani. An empress of the Lohara dynasty, Kota Rani ruled Kashmir till 1339 and was known for her alluring beauty and administrative skills.

“It's a matter of great surprise that as Indians we don't know enough or at all about a personality like Kota Rani. It would be no exaggeration to compare her to Cleopatra and a lot of things that we are witnessing today are directly related to the story of Kota Rani," says Madhu, who resumes his association with Reliance Entertainment after the dismantling of Phantom Films last year.

Sibashish Sarkar, Group CEO of Reliance Entertainment, describes Kota Rani as the greatest female ruler in Indian history. “Her character has many shades but without a doubt she is one of the tallest female characters to have come out of our country. Paradoxically, very few of us know about her. We will be making this film at an ambitious scale," says Sibashish.

Further details about the cast and technicians of the biopic are awaited. Madhu and Sibashish are presently collaborating on ‘83. Their last release was Super 30, starring Hrithik Roshan and directed by Vikas Bahl.
