Boman Irani plays Farokh Engineer in '83
In a 2018 post on Instagram, the actor had said that Engineer was his childhood hero

Boman Irani, who was last seen in the biopic PM Narendra Modi, has been roped in to play Farokh Engineer in Kabir Khan's '83. Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, the production banner owned by Sajid Nadiadwala, took to social media to announce the news:

Engineer, the former India wicket-keeper and opening batsman, was the only Indian commentator during the World Cup. In a 2018 post on Instagram, Boman had said that Engineer was his childhood hero.
Ranveer Singh, who plays Kapil Dev in '83, shared his delight at the news. Ranveer will incidentally be sharing screenspace with Boman for the first time.

'83, which has a star-studded cast, is currently being shot in London. The film is scheduled to hit the screens on May 24, 2020.
