Production studio Paramount and gaming giant Hasbro are developing a new GI Joe spinoff.

Latest reports state that writers Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol fame) have planned to get on board with the film. Additionally, the film will apparently include Chuckles, a character who was introduced in the action figures toyline and Marvel Comics in 1987, and is known for being an expert at infiltration and going undercover.

It's been three years since Paramount and Hasbro announced the Hasbro Film Universe writing team and the first film to be expected from this universe would be a Snake Eyes solo film that has The Time Traveler's Wife filmmaker Robert Schwentke handling the direction. This film has a tentative release date of October 2020. This will be followed by another famous figures toyline, Micronauts' first live-action film and Dungeons & Dragons movie reboot in 2021.

Interestingly, despite the first two GI Joe films, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and G.I. Joe: Retaliation, not receiving positive reviews, the films have done well financially.
