Actor Ali Fazal has called out the producers of Maska on Twitter, accusing them of not paying the actors and unethically uploading a song from the film. Directed by Prakash Raj, Maska is a remake of the Malayalam hit Salt N’ Pepper. The film also stars Taapsee Pannu and Nana Patekar. Earlier this year, the makers ran into legal trouble over the Intellectual Property (IP) rights of the film.

Last week, Zee Music (the music wing of Zee Studios) uploaded a song from the film on their official YouTube channel. Reacting to what he viewed as a breach, Ali tweeted, “There’s a court case on the producers of this film as far as I remember. Cheques have bounced. Actors and crew still haven’t gotten paid. Surprised to see a promotional song coming out from the film.”

A source close to the actor said he was displeased with the apparent louting of court rules, which had kept the film on hold. “He (Ali) saw the incident as a breach of ethical conduct on part of the producers who are yet to clear payments for cast and crew but are willing to flaunt their film on social media. Not the one to stay mum on issues close to his heart, he put his version out there to make his stand on the matter clear and show his solidarity with the aggrieved cast and crew,” the source said.

Ali Fazal is presently shooting for Mirzapur Season 2. The actor will also be seen in Prasthanam, co-starring Sanjay Dutt and Manisha Koirala.
