Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi’s India-set film, Beyond The Clouds, starring Ishaan Khatter and Malavika Mohanan, will be released in China on May 24. Zee Studios — which is also releasing the 2017 thriller Mom starring Sridevi in the neighbouring country on May 10 — is keen on expanding its global reach to the Chinese market.

“The Chinese market is currently being dominated by Indian films and all the films that have travelled to this market in the recent past are a strong testimony of this,” says Vibha Chopra, Head - Zee Studios International (Film Marketing, Distribution, and Acquisition). “It is an important month for us in the region as we release two beautiful stories that are strong on narrative and high on emotion, yet dramatically different from each other. We are confident that both will find an audience in China."

Beyond The Clouds was previously released in 34 territories by Zee Studios International. Set in the slums of Mumbai, the film tells a story of sibling relationships against the backdrop of the drug mafia.

“Majidi’s brilliance transcends boundaries. At Zee Studios International we have always strived to take conventional and unconventional films to new territories, opening unexplored avenues for the films that we are distributing. We are excited to see how the Chinese audience reacts to the Beyond The Clouds, a film that has been loved globally,” Vibha adds.
