Come February, and Tollywood is set to witness the clash of two much-awaited biopics that depict the life and times of two stalwarts from the Telugu States. Yatra, starring Malayalam Superstar Mammootty, and Mahanayakudu, featuring Nandamuri Balakrishna in the lead, will face-off at the box office on the same day in the second week of February.
Interestingly, both the films were supposed to be released with a gap of three weeks, but the makers of Yatra had a change of plan and have decided to pit their film against Mahanayakudu. "It's more or less like a political war ahead of the General Elections in Andhra Pradesh. Both the films have amazing stories to tell and a star cast to watch out for. Everyone is looking forward to them and it remains to be seen who will have the upper hand,” says a source.
Directed by Krish, Mahanayakudu is based on the political sojourn of Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao, while Yatra, helmed by Mahi V Raghav, showcases the incidents that happened during the walkathon of Dr YS Rajasekhar Reddy.
