Ryan Reynolds, Michael Bay team up for Six Underground

Following on from the announcement that Barack and Michelle Obama will be producing shows for Netflix, the online streaming giant has now roped in director Michael Bay and actor Ryan Reynolds for Six Underground. The film, co-produced and distributed by Netflix, alongside Skydance, will mark the first time the actor-director duo are associated with the brand.

Six Undergound was expected to be produced by Paramount, the studio which has a long-standing relationship with Michael Bay, but Netflix successfully wooed the director with a promised budget of $125 million. This budget would mean that Six Undergound becomes the studio's biggest production to date, passing The Irishman, which is estimated to be produced on a budget of $105 million.

The Deadpool star now joins Will Smith and Brad Pitt as Netflix's film chief Scott Stuber continues to add more acting talents to their roster. Six Underground will reunite Ryan Reynolds with Deadpool and Deadpool 2 writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. The film, expected to be an action thriller, will go into production later this summer with a worldwide Netflix release scheduled for 2019.
