Kollywood shutdown continues: Nearly 37 Tamil films waiting for a release

On Day 2 of the complete Kollywood shutdown called by the TFPC (TamilNadu Film Producers Council), shoots still remain suspended within Tamil Nadu, except for the films which got a special permission to shoot outside the state. These shoots will continue till March 23.

As of now, the screens in Chennai city and a few theatres in other districts are operating with other language films like Raid, Gringo and Kirrak Party. A massive count of 950 theatres have been closed in Tamil Nadu owing to the strike.

Currently, 37 new Tamil films are in the queue, awaiting their release after the strike. In addition, 27 more films have been sent to the censor board, and they will be receiving their certification by the end of this month. If this scenario persists, all departments of the Tamil film industry will take a heavy toll.

According to sources, the Producers Council is planning to come up with a digital service solution of their own to put an end to this issue permanently. But, an official confirmation is awaited.
