Richa Chadha to play Shakeela in biopic
The film will be based on Shakeela's rise to fame in the 90s after starting her career at the age of 16
A biopic based on the life of popular Malayalam actor Shakeela is in the works, and Richa Chadha has been roped in for the project. The film will revolve around Shakeela's rise to fame during the 90s.
Shakeela gained popularity for starring in adult films made in all four South Indian languages. Even though she had a very successful career and had fans all over the world, at a time when the film industry was dominated by men, the actor had a very tragic personal life. She launched her autobiography titled Shakeela Athmakatha in 2013, in which she had revealed the traumas and pains she went through in the adult film industry.
Some years ago, the life of actor Silk Smitha was similarly made into several film adaptations, including the highly successful The Dirty Picture, starring Vidya Balan.
About the upcoming biopic, a source close to Richa Chadha said, "The film's script is exciting and the story will make for a great watch for the audience." The Indrajit Lankesh-directorial will go on floors this April and is slated for release early next year.
