WCC members seek meeting with AMMA

Following the unwelcome reinstatement of actor Dileep into AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) and the subsequent resignation of four actresses from the association, actor Rima Kallingal, along with all WCC (Women in Cinema Collective) members, has penned a letter to AMMA urging them to convene an Emergency Executive Body meeting on July 13 or 14 to gauge AMMA's stand on the issue and the steps they are taking to ensure the welfare of its female members.

The letter was posted along with a note condemning the actions of AMMA, which in the past has pledged support for the actor who was sexually assaulted last year. Dileep, who is one of the prime accused in this case, was ousted from AMMA following public outcry. However, in the recent general body meeting of AMMA, which saw the election of Mohanlal as its President, a decision was made to reinstate Dileep. This compelled the assaulted actor to quit AMMA, and three other female artistes -- Rima Kallingal, Geethu Mohandas, and Remya Nambeesan -- followed suit. All four are part of the WCC, which was created last year as an immediate response to this shocking incident.

Also signed by actors Revathy, Padmapriya, and Parvathy, the meeting is sought to understand:

- The expelled member's reinstatement and the implications of AMMA's decision.

- The steps taken by AMMA to support the survivor.

- How AMMA's bye-laws are structured to ensure welfare of all its members.

- What AMMA can do to make women feel more included and safe.
