Bollywood actor Pankaj Tripathi, who was last seen in Pa Ranjith's Kaala, has been roped in to play an important role in the biopic of actor Shakeela.

The yet-to-be-titled film, directed by Indrajit Lankesh, will depict the life of the actor from her childhood to when she became a popular name in the soft-porn industry of the late 1990s. While Richa Chadha will be playing the titular role, Pankaj Tripathi will be seen as a South Indian actor from the 90s, a dear friend of Shakeela.

Pankaj has been studying his character's nuances carefully, according to an official press release from the makers. The actor is expected to join the shoot in Karnataka in the last week of August.

"It is amazing to know the anecdotes that have happened in her life. I am glad to be a part of this film," the actor has said in a statement.

The first look of the film, featuring Richa in typical Malayali attire, was released recently.
